The Physics of Blowing a Bubble

The Science Behind it All

The pressure inside of the bubble can be measured and calculated.

To do this one needs to consider the radius of the bubble and the surface tension of the liquid (gamma).

Inside the bubble the pressure p is acting over the entire cross section piR^2 resulting in a total force of p(piR^2)

Since the bubble is at equilibrium the sum of the forces must be set equil to zero. so we have

2gamma(2piR)=p(piR^2)

where

p = 4gamma/R
